Supplier Quality Engineer

The primary purpose of this position is to drive and support quality system improvements and APQP process implementation on high risk and/or new suppliers, in order to achieve a consistently strong performance level on PPAP submission and overall
quality performance. This position will collaborate with Purchasing, Business Development and Manufacturing on supplier development activities for key program critical suppliers, by utilizing knowledge and experience in the principles and
processes of quality management.

Essential Functions:

• Conduct Supplier Risk Assessments and coordinate follow-up of action plan implementation.
• Administer supplier information database (contact lists, quality certifications, etc).
• Implement and administer a supplier scorecard system.
• Support the supplier understanding of the quality requirements.
• Support plants in Pre-Award meetings to ensure new suppliers understand PPAP and pre-launch control plans according to the corporate procedure.
• Support APQP activities prior to full production with suppliers.
• As necessary, coordinate with suppliers the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), performing on-site reviews and providing training if required.
• Review and approve supplier PPAP's, including MDS system submissions, and line trials for functional verification.
• Perform Part and Process Audits and action plan follow-up.
• Maintain interface with Business Development and Manufacturing to ensure quality objectives are identified and achieved with suppliers, providing support to purchasing in order to develop a robust supply base.
• Know customer requirements, assure compliance at supplier level
• Identify improvement opportunities at suppliers and drive out waste and variability, improve quality, build supplier relationship and rapport.
• Review and manage supplier drawings
• Conduct regular supplier visits and audits on high risk and high impact suppliers
• Lead supplier issue resolution when plants are not receiving immediate action

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor Degree in engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge of primary automotive quality management systems: TS 16949 and quality tools (AIAG, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, APQP)
• Experience in quality management
• Minimum 5-7 years experience in supply chain management/development activities required
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in plant operations required.
• Ability to read and review blue prints is required
• Expertise in problem solving methodology and corrective action development
• Experience with quality system implementation
• Project management experience is preferred
• Experience or knowledge with stamping, cold heading or other metal processing.
• Knowledge in continuous improvement methodologies
• Proficient computer skills in MS Office Programs, Internet, Email
• Knowledge of English language, oral and written and bilingual in Spanish is preferred
• Trained in using the Material Data System for data reporting
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, domestically & internationally
