CNC Machinist

Aztec Plastics is seeking a highly experienced CNC Machinist who is willing to learn and grow with the company. Aztec Plastics is a family owned; full-service plastic injection molding company located in the West Loop of Chicago. The ideal candidate must know how to set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate some metallic, but mostly nonmetallic, plastic parts. We are looking for someone who has a proven track record as a CNC Machinist, enjoys performing machine duties, and is interested in growing into a Production Management position over time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as CNC Lathes and machining centers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Assists machine operators as needed.
  • Experience as a manual and CNC Machinist with Job Shop and Manufacturing background
  • Proficient in setup, tooling, programming, editing, tolerances +/- .0002, blueprints, G&M Codes with proficiency in all measuring instruments.
  • Machine fixtures as needed, tooling, and experimental parts to meet jobs needs
  • Set controls to regulate machining, and enter commands to retrieve, input, and edit computerized machine controls.
  • Write programs using FeatureCAM Premium 2017 based off already created & provided model files for a CNC Milltronics 8200.
  • Proficient in off-line, CAD/CAM software programming.
  • Ability to set up and run CNC Machines when not programming.
  • Create model files when necessary (not a deal breaker if not able to generate a model file from scratch, as most of our parts have already an existing model file...)

Qualifications:

  • Must have experience using FeatureCAM or similar software.
  • Must have experience creating model files.
  • Experience in a production manufacturing environment.
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Job costing /estimating a HUGE plus.
